Iberdrola and the Basque Government join forces to advance quantum technology.

As part of the Basque Quantum strategy to promote a quantum technology node in the Basque Country, the electricity company will have access to IBM's Quantum System Two supercomputer in San Sebastián.

The agreement between the regional government and the electricity company seeks to promote research, technological development, and knowledge transfer in computing.

And it is part of the BasQ (Basque Quantum) strategy launched by the Basque Government, which aims to promote public-private collaboration to bring innovation to industrial applications.

Thanks to this agreement, Iberdrola will have access to BasQ's quantum computing capacity, will be a member of the IBM-Euskadi computing center and will be able to use IBM's Quantum System Two. This advanced operational quantum computer will be the multinational's only one in Europe, and will exceed 150 qubits and will be installed by the end of 2025 in San Sebastián.

Members of the IBM-Euskadi Quantum Computing Center will be able to use its capabilities and resources to train professionals specializing in quantum computing, promote economic development, and advance toward new, useful algorithms.

The agreement between Iberdrola and the Government also provides for collaboration on applied research projects, advanced training, and scientific dissemination, with a focus on the potential applications of quantum physics in the energy sector.
