It is the great forgotten when installing air conditioning, but it is key for it to work on the hottest days.

It seems like every summer is hotter than the last, and that's why when these holidays arrive, everyone prepares as best they can to try to stay as cool as possible at home. And although there are many techniques, it's undeniable that the most effective way to achieve this is to have an air conditioner installed.

While this appliance is expensive, not only for the appliance itself but also for turning it on, it's worth it for many in the face of these heat waves. However, you may have noticed that on these hottest days, the air wasn't cooling as much as usual.

You might think this is because it's so hot that the room itself is so hot that even air can't cool it down, but the truth is, if this happens, it's because of something you did or did "wrong" when you installed the air conditioning.

This is because these appliances are made up of two parts, the indoor unit (the air conditioning unit itself) and the outdoor unit, also known as the condenser unit , which is the part of the system that is installed outside the home and contains the key components for the operation of the air conditioning, such as the compressor, the condenser, and the fan.

This external part is located outside the house and is mistakenly often placed wherever it is or is accessible, but this can become a problem on very hot days, since like other electronic devices, they can overheat in high temperatures and their performance decreases , or even if it is too hot, they can turn off automatically.

The truth is that each model has a different endurance, and we can check ours in its specifications in the "Operating Range" section, although the maximum temperature is usually a figure that oscillates between 45 and 50 degrees, something that can easily be reached if exposed to the sun for several hours.

How to solve this problem

If you haven't installed air conditioning yet, find a spot that's preferably shaded , especially during the midday and afternoon hours when it's hottest.

If we already have it installed and experience this problem, we can call the installer to reposition the outdoor unit, although this entails an extra cost . Alternatively, you can try putting up something like an awning made of fabric or cardboard, but it's very important not to put it directly over the unit, as that would obstruct ventilation . Instead, place it at a safe distance, but still provide shade for the unit.
