Telcel suffers a multi-million dollar fine from the Federal Telecommunications Institute; this is the reason

América Móvil informed the stock markets on Tuesday afternoon that the Federal Telecommunications Institute ( IFT ) imposed a fine of 1,782.6 million pesos on its subsidiary Radiomóvil Dipsa, better known as Telcel , for alleged monopolistic practices.

In a statement, the company controlled by Carlos Slim Helú 's family said it was notified of the resolution issued by the Institute regarding an investigation initiated in 2021 at the request of a competitor, for the alleged commission of relative monopolistic practices in the national market for the distribution and sale of SIM cards through convenience store chains.

" Telcel categorically denies having committed the aforementioned practice. This arbitrary and disproportionate fine is based on statements from a competitor and an investigation characterized by biased and unsubstantiated actions by the IFT's Investigative Authority ," the telecommunications company emphasized.

Telcel also announced that it "will pursue all available defenses against the abusive investigation process and this arbitrary fine."
