Against this rival he knows much better: Edson Álvarez

After scoring the goal that gave Mexico the Gold Cup title, Mexican National Team captain Edson Álvarez said that winning the championship against the United States tastes much better.

Despite winning the championship, Álvarez remained objective and emphasized that they must keep their feet on the ground , as they still have much room for improvement. Therefore, he dedicated the championship to the Mexican fans.

"We're very happy, but well, we're keeping our feet on the ground. There's a lot to improve, a lot to work on, but what better way to do it than with a championship for all our fans, against this opponent. I think they know much, much better," he said.

Álvarez also emphasized that his desire was to win the championship to demonstrate all the hard work he put in before and during the 35-day training camp.

“I'm speechless. Honestly, I'm very happy, very happy because it was 35 days of training, during which you don't see your family. And well, in the end, our goal was to win the title to make all the effort we put in worthwhile,” he said.

At the end, he spoke about the goal that gave the tricolor team the title , highlighting that several goals had already been disallowed, so he emphasized the importance of having scored the goal that gave Mexico the victory.

“I'd already had several goals disallowed. Honestly, I thought I was in a good position. Obviously, they cut off your goal-scoring cry, but hey, when you get the goal, it's crazy. What better than a winning goal for the team,” he concluded.
