The match for glory will be next Sunday against England , who already beat them in the decisive match of the 2023 World Cup and who also beat Italy, the tournament's great revelation, in extra time.

"I've worked both physically and mentally to reach these moments at my best. Thanks also to everyone who has been with me and helped me reach my peak level today," Bonmatí said.

The player's goal marked the first victory in nine attempts against Germany. The match was seven minutes into a penalty shootout when Bonmatí received a pass and beat Rebecca Knaak with a clever feint, before firing into the top corner.

The goal also ended a rare drought for Bonmatí, who had not scored in his previous six appearances .

"Aitana hasn't had an easy start to this European Championship. She's a player with a very special personality that allows her to perform at the highest level," said coach Montse Tomé.

"We suffered, but it's the first time we've beaten (Germany), and now we're going for the final. We work for it every day," said the reigning two-time Ballon d'Or winner.

"We had studied Berger (the German goalkeeper), who made certain movements and sometimes left spaces at the near post," he acknowledged.

"I don't believe in destiny. I believe in hard work and mentality. In the support of the people, of which we had a lot here. For now, it's time to celebrate, and tomorrow we'll think about England," he concluded.

Spain hopes to add a European title to its collection after winning the World Cup and Nations League in the last two years. To achieve that, they must beat defending champions England on Sunday in Basel.
