Cruz Azul thanks Vicente Sánchez

Less than a week after winning the CONCACAF Champions Cup, Cruz Azul fired Uruguayan coach Vicente Sánchez.
Sánchez, 45, was working in the youth teams and had to take charge of the first team following the unexpected departure of Argentine Martín Anselmi to Porto in Portugal just two matches into the Clausura tournament.
In Sánchez's tenure of less than six months, the Celeste team reached the semifinals of the 2025 Clausura and also thrashed the Vancouver Whitecaps 5-0 last Sunday to claim their seventh regional crown.
In 28 games, Sánchez managed 18 wins and suffered just two losses. But that wasn't enough to convince his managers.
"Cruz Azul expresses its deepest gratitude to Vicente Sánchez for his contribution over the past few months, wishing him every success and keeping the institution's doors open to future projects," the capital club added.
The South American coach had a six-month contract, but the management, led by Uruguayan Iván Alonso, is reportedly looking for a more experienced coach to take over the team.
It has been revealed that the Machine is in talks with Nicolás Larcamón , who led Necaxa to the playoffs in the previous tournament.
