Egan Bernal says he can still win the Giro d'Italia: 'I think I'm capable of fighting for the pink jersey.'
Egan Bernal has been in excellent form at the 2025 Giro d'Italy. The 2021 champion returned to the race this year and currently sits ninth in the overall standings.
With a two-minute, 50-second lead over race leader Isaac del Toro, the Colombian remains firmly in the title race and promises to fight until the final day. Bad luck in Tuesday's time trial, during which he crashed, kept him slightly off the podium.

Egan Bernal believes he can still win the Giro d'Italia
“I think I'm capable of fighting for the maglia rosa. It's always the same at the Giro: everyone sprints to get a bonus of two, four seconds maybe... and then, in the last week, the overall will be a matter of minutes. We'll be patient,” Egan said, in statements released by his team, Ineos Grenadiers.
Bernal made a significant effort on Friday's stage and did a thorough job of sorting out several of his rivals in the standings. He succeeded, so much so that he returned to the Top 10, gaining two positions.

"Besides competing for results, I ride for myself and want to feel good on the bike. When I get back to the bus after the stages, I don't look at the standings . Enjoying cycling is what matters most to me, and I really enjoyed today's race (Friday). The team supports me, and there's not much more I could ask for in life," added the Zipaquirá native.
The 2019 Tour de France champion acknowledged the toughness of Friday's stage, in which Mads Pedersen (Lidl-Trek) achieved his fourth stage victory.
"Our plan was to try to open the race and see if anyone else wanted to attack, but we were many kilometers from the finish. In any case, these efforts will have an impact on everyone's legs later on," Bernal said.

On Saturday, stage 14 of the Giro d'Italia
This Saturday, Stage 14 will be run between Treviso and Nova Gorica, covering 195 kilometers. The route is mostly flat, but with some short climbs at the finish that, in principle, shouldn't affect the overall standings.
