Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain made their Club World Cup debuts with sweeping victories, beating Auckland City and Atlético Madrid 10-0 and 4-0, respectively.

The German side overwhelmed the New Zealanders with a hat trick from Jamal Musiala in 17 minutes (67', 73', and 84'), as well as doubles from Thomas Muller (45' and 89'), Kingsley Coman (6' and 21'), and Michael Olise (20' and 45'). Sacha Boey (18') also scored.

“We did our job. We played seriously,” said Bayern coach Vincent Kompany. “We did what we needed to do. Maybe goal difference is important in the group, so winning by 10 goals is important.”

"The highlight was Musiala's return. It's a good sign for the rest of the tournament," he added.

Bayern dominated with 31 shots on goal to one and 72 percent possession against the New Zealand team, which fielded several semi-professional players.

Bayern will play again this Friday against Boca Juniors and then on June 24 against Benfica.

He doesn't slow down

PSG, who had just thrashed Inter Milan (5-0) in the recent Champions League final, beat Atlético de Madrid 4-0 in their debut, with goals from Fabián Ruiz (19'), Vitinha (45'), Senny Mayulu (87) and Lee Kang-in (97).

The French team prevailed before a crowd of 80,619 in one of the highest-profile matches of the group stage at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California.

“PSG are fair winners, given their level of play, they were better… We have to push harder, like in the second half, when we saw a different team, wanting the ball, attacking,” commented Koke, captain of the Atlético Madrid team.

Clément Lenglet was sent off in the 78th minute for a second yellow card, further complicating matters for the Spanish team.

For his part, Atlético de Madrid coach Diego Simeone declared: "We didn't know how to get out of those situations." "The other team (PSG) was better, they were superior, they took the ball away from us."

“We came here to compete. There can be turbulence along the way, and we had it today,” he emphasized. He acknowledged that the score was “a blow” for his team and that “the goal difference was tough; four goals is a lot,” the Argentine added.

On the other hand, PSG coach Luis Enrique emphasized that "we value our current situation; it's the result of hard work throughout the season, and we want to extend it as much as possible."

"A new chapter is beginning, in which you have to show that you have the ability to keep reinventing yourself," he continued. "The club is very hungry, the fans are very hungry, the players and the team are very hungry," the Asturian coach maintained.

Striker Ousmane Dembélé was sidelined due to injury; Portuguese forward Goncalo Ramos replaced him in the lineup.
