Oakmont defeated several favorites to win the US Open, in which Nicolás Echavarría missed the cut.

Oakmont defeated several favorites to win the US Open, in which Nicolás Echavarría missed the cut.
As expected, the Oakmont Country Club course in Pennsylvania (United States) was a nightmare for participants in the US Open, the third Major of the year, from which Colombian Nicolás Echavarría bowed out this Friday.
American Sam Burns took the lead in the tournament with a golf performance that, given the rest of the day, is a complete surprise. He played in the morning and finished with a 5-under (65 strokes), which puts him at the top of the leaderboard in this major with 137 strokes (-3).
Oakmont Hell: Only three players are under par
The rigor with which they prepared the course was demonstrated by the scores: only three golfers went into the weekend under par: Burns, his compatriot and Thursday's leader JJ Spaun (+2 on Friday, -2 overall) and Norwegian Viktor Hovland (-2 in the second round, -1 cumulative).
The cut was set at +7 and included many illustrious names, led by defending champion American Bryson DeChambeau at +10 after the first two days of the tournament.

Other former champions also said goodbye to the tournament, such as Americans Wyndham Clark, Lucas Glover, Dustin Johnson and Gary Woodland and England's Justin Rose, as well as other illustrious names such as Ludvig Aberg, Phil Mickelson, Patrick Cantlay, Joaquín Niemann, Justin Thomas and Shane Lowry.
The winners of the first two Majors of the year did make the cut, but far behind the top of the table: American Scottie Scheffler, winner of the PGA Championship (+1 on Friday, +4 overall) and Northern Ireland's Rory McIlroy, reigning Masters champion, who did not have a good time staying in the tournament and got a great birdie on the 18th to give himself a break (+2 in the second round, +6 overall).

Spaniard Jon Rahm also suffered greatly. After a promising -1 on Thursday (69), he posted a +5 on Friday, leaving him with a total of +4 and a lot of work ahead of him in the next two days if he wants to have a chance at victory in this major.
Nicolás Echavarría said goodbye: only three Latin Americans remain
Three of the Latin American representatives made the cut: Argentina's Emiliano Grillo, who enters the weekend with a +3 total after a +2 on Friday; Mexico's Carlos Ortiz, also with a +3 total and a +2 in the second round; and Venezuela's Jhonattan Vegas, with a +4 after two rounds (even on Friday).

Justin Hastings of the Cayman Islands, champion of the Latin America Amateur Championship, also made the cut and will be the only amateur player on the course on Saturday and Sunday.
Colombian Nicolás Echavarría didn't have a good tournament and was never able to find his game on the Oakmont course. He shot a 78 on Thursday (+8) and added another 75 on Friday (+5) to finish just six shots short of the cut.
