Seville native Miguel de Toro is a world champion again with the Spanish water polo team.

Seville water polo player Miguel de Toro completed the best season of his life this Thursday in Singapore at the World Championships, winning the gold medal with the Spanish national team after beating Hungary (15-13) in a tremendously exciting match that David Martín's team controlled until halftime and then struggled in the third quarter (8-10), before turning things around to once again achieve glory. Spain's victory was another chapter in the history of national water polo, a final marked by goals from Sanahuja, Granados, and Munárriz, and saves from Unai Aguirre, the differential factor.

The first quarter ended in a draw (5-5); the second, with a minimal Spanish advantage (7-6); and the third, with a 9-10 deficit in the team's worst period, until a decisive comeback thanks to a 6-3 run that propelled Spain to the top step of the podium. Miguel de Toro, a tremendously experienced player who has been a fixture in the Spanish team's plans for years, adds another international success in an unforgettable campaign for this Waterpolo Sevilla youth player, as he has been crowned European champion with his team, Ferencvaros. Hence, in an interview with AS, days before the final, he spoke of a "perfect, dreamlike, and unimaginable" season if it were to be crowned with this world title.

With this title in Singapore, Spain also shakes off the bitter taste left by sixth place at the Paris Games . With the national team, De Toro has won four continental medals (one gold, one bronze, and two silvers); as well as four world championships (two golds and two bronzes). The most prominent representative of the prolific Waterpolo Sevilla youth system has triumphed again just days after the youth team of this Seville club became Spanish champions, a historic milestone, defeating Atlétic Barceloneta .

Meanwhile, at the World Artistic Swimming Championships, also being held in Singapore, Seville-born Marina García Polo and Alisa Ozhogina each won bronze medals with the Spanish team in the Technical Team and Free Team events. Marina García is the only Seville-born representative in the national octet in the Acrobatic Team . The Spaniards finished second in the preliminary round, behind China, and the final will be held this Friday at 1:32 p.m. (Spanish time).
