MEXICO CITY (apro).- President Claudia Sheinbaum will meet with U.S. congressmen for 15 minutes, two days before the threat of 30 percent tariffs on Mexican products goes into effect; but she affirms that she will address the immigration situation of Mexicans.

"I'm going to meet with you today for about 15 minutes. We're going to talk about the Mexico-United States relationship, the situation of our countrymen there, the concern for what they're experiencing, the need. We always talk about them."

The Mexican president outlined the need for immigration reform that would allow Mexicans to achieve legal immigration status in the United States, allowing them to work without the risk of being detained, especially because they contribute to the US economy and their families in Mexico.

"These are the topics we always talk about: security, trade, what we're doing. They requested a meeting with the Foreign Affairs Ministry. Yesterday, they asked me if I could meet with them, so we'll meet with them. It's always good to make people aware of what we're doing in Mexico and our position of supporting Mexicans in the United States."
