From Albania to Rome. The 108th edition of the 2025 Giro d'Italia has been running for several days through Italian soil, a race that continues through this month until it finishes in the Eternal City.

This Thursday, May 22nd, marks the twelfth of the 21 stages of a race in which reigning champion Tadej Pogacar will be unable to win the pink jersey again, having been a notable absence this year. His UAE Team Emirates has decided to prioritize its schedule for other races and not compete in all three Grand Tours in the same season (Giro, Tour de France, and Vuelta a España). Jonas Vingegaard, the great alternative, will also be absent.

The favorites in this edition are Primoz Roglic, Juan Ayuso, Adam Yates, Giulio Ciccone, and Antonio Tiberi. Also to be considered are race winners such as Richard Carapaz (2019) , Egan Bernal (2021) , and Jai Hindley (2022), who will all be looking to repeat.

Route and profile of stage 12 of the Giro d'Italia today

In this edition, competitors will cover 3,413.3 kilometers with an altitude difference of 52,500 meters. Of the 21 stages, two will be time trials, six will be sprints, and the rest will be mountain stages, the latter with moderate to maximum difficulties.

In addition to the four Albanian municipalities, the Giro will pass through 14 Italian regions : Veneto, Aosta Valley, Umbria, Trentino, Tuscany, Puglia, Piedmont, Marche, Lombardy, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Emilia Romagna, Campania, Basilicata and Abruzzo.

Stage 12 will be a quiet one, ideal for the sprinters' teams to control the pace. The sprinters must take advantage of one of their few opportunities before the mountainous terrain returns.

Stage 12 - Thursday, May 22: Modena-Viadana, 172 km

It will start in Modena and finish in Viadana , and will cover a total distance of 172 kilometers , with the stage finale taking place on an urban circuit of approximately 27 kilometers.

The Giro d'Italia stage schedule is scheduled for around 1:00 PM. As is typical in a sport like cycling, the finish time depends on the speed of the peloton and the number of kilometers the cyclists must cover. The stage typically concludes around 5:00 PM.

In Spain, the Giro d'Italia can be watched on Eurosport . Specifically, the sports broadcaster holds the broadcast rights to the Italian round, which will be broadcast on its linear channel Eurosport 1. This channel is available on Max, DAZN, Movistar Plus, Vodafone TV, Orange TV, Telecable, R, Euskaltel, and Virgin Telco. Additionally, in the Basque Country, EITB (the Basque public television channel) will broadcast live at the finish of each stage.
