The reason why Ferrari is running half a blue car at the Miami Formula 1 GP

Ferrari surprised everyone at this Miami Grand Prix by painting half of the car in blue , rather than the usual full red. The blue is present at the rear, combined with white, a color that runs from the engine cover to the rear wing, as well as the entire width and length of the front wing.
Last year, also in Florida , the drivers wore this color and some details on the car, but this year they've gone a step further. Blue is no casual color for the Italian team , and there are several reasons why they use it.
It all began in 1964, when Enzo Ferrari, the brand's founder and president, had a dispute with the Italian Automobile Federation over its failure to homologate the new GT 250 LM model. Enzo threatened to abandon the red color , and he followed through, as the team's car didn't appear in the final races of the season.

That year, Ferrari driver John Surtees was a contender for the World Championship, and to keep him racing, the Italian team used the North American Racing Team, a subsidiary of the United States. The cars were painted blue and white to symbolize the American flag. With these cars, Surtees and his teammate, Lorenzo Bandini, competed in the U.S. and Mexican Grand Prix, the final races of the season. John Surtees managed to win the World Championship with the car in those colors.

It's also a nod to the connection between Maranello and because it marks the 71st anniversary of Ferrari's presence in North America. One of the sponsors is partly to blame. HP , the main sponsor since 2024, has blue as its corporate color and is taking the opportunity to change the livery of its clothing and car.
