WASHINGTON (apro) .- The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced the issuance of three new waivers to ensure the expeditious construction of another 59.9 kilometers of wall on the country's southern border, which borders the northern territory of Mexico.

The stretch of wall, which will be built to further divide U.S. territory from Mexico, will be located on the southern border of Arizona, California, New Mexico, and Texas, according to details released by the Trump administration.

The decision to issue the waivers was published in the U.S. Official Gazette, and the documents were signed and authorized by Kristi Noem, head of the Department of Homeland Security.

With these exemptions, DHS is overriding concerns related to the negative environmental impacts of wall construction in some sections of the U.S. southern border, such as the National Environmental Policy Act.

This environmental measure had prevented Border Patrol agents from clearing roads in sections of the southern border, which borders Mexico, and from constructing sections of physical barriers due to the risk of damaging the environment.

"The projects implemented through the waivers are critical steps to ensuring security on the southern border and strengthening our commitment to that end," Noem emphasized in a press release.

The wall sections to be built extend from the El Paso to Santa Teresa Sector (11.2 kilometers); El Paso-Anapra Sector (2.09 km); El Paso Sector 2 (321 meters); Yuma Sector Barry Goldwater (74.3 meters); Tucson-Sonoita Sector (39.7 km); Tucson Project 10-4 (321 meters); and Tucson Project 10-6 (3.3 km).

“Together, these projects will close a critical gap in border wall construction and strengthen Border Patrol border security operations in the El Paso, Tucson, and Yuma sectors,” Secretary Noem concluded.
