A recent study published in the Journal of Experimental Psychology presented the results of a study that sought to identify the characteristics that define people commonly perceived as "cool," a term associated with a socially attractive and distinctive image.

An international group of researchers responsible for the analysis concluded that there are six main traits that shape this social perception. According to their findings, people considered "cool" tend to be adventurous, hedonistic, extroverted, powerful, open, and autonomous.

"The study allowed us to establish a global consensus on the characteristics that shape this perception," the research team explained. The publication notes that the research was conducted based on responses from nearly 6,000 people spread across more than a dozen countries with diverse cultural backgrounds.

The countries included in the sample include South Korea, India, Mexico, South Africa, Spain, Turkey, China, Germany, and Chile. According to the researchers, the participants were selected to ensure regional representation and cultural diversity, in order to explore possible differences in perceptions of the concept.

According to the results, no significant variations were observed across world regions. Therefore, the most significant finding was that these six characteristics were recognized and valued similarly by people from different cultures.

The analysis also highlighted that the identified characteristics combine aspects related to social behavior, attitude toward life, and the way individuals manage their autonomy.

In this sense, research maintains that the term "cool" encompasses elements associated with a taste for adventure and the pursuit of pleasurable experiences, along with a tendency toward sociability, the ability to exert power or influence, open-mindedness, and independence.

The results suggest that the perception of 'cool' people is not solely a localized cultural phenomenon, but rather responds to globally shared psychological patterns ,” the study stated.

The research team asserted that these results could contribute to a better understanding of how social perceptions are constructed around certain behaviors and attitudes. Furthermore, they raise the possibility that these traits influence social dynamics such as interpersonal attraction, group formation, and leadership.

Although the term has roots in cultural expressions from different eras, its current relevance has been reinforced, with personal image taking on a central role in everyday interactions. This, according to researchers, has kept interest in understanding what defines a person under this social category alive.
