On Wednesday, July 9, the US dollar was quoted at 4.041 Colombian pesos, and at its lowest point (July 5) it reached 3.938 pesos.
While it's not always clear how these fluctuations impact travelers , a cheaper dollar can mean significant savings on tickets, accommodations, shopping, and other expenses abroad.
Below, we share some tips to take advantage of the dollar's decline when planning your next trips and securing the best prices available.

- Start planning early. Taking advantage of the current dollar rate can make a big difference in the total cost of your trip. Don't wait for it to rise: plan now and purchase essential items in batches. Keep in mind that many purchases related to international travel are priced in dollars.
- Buy international tickets. The falling dollar lowers the price of airline tickets, most of which are priced in this currency. This means it's a good time to look for deals to destinations like the United States, Europe, and the Caribbean.
- Book your accommodation. If you already have your tickets, the next step is to search various platforms and compare accommodation prices. If you book in advance, for example, to travel in December, it can be much cheaper, especially if you're traveling during peak season, when options tend to be more limited.
- Travel to dream destinations. A cheaper dollar can bring you closer to places you've always dreamed of, like Asia, Europe, and New York in the winter, which tend to be more expensive when the currency is rising.
- Buy tickets on official websites. If you plan to visit tourist attractions, such as amusement parks, purchase tickets on official websites. Paying directly in dollars can help you save money. Planning is key.
- Take advantage of the opportunity to shop. If your goal is to shop at your destination, look for discounted options, such as outlets. Also, if your trip is close, you can take advantage of the exchange rate to order products online and have them delivered directly to your hotel.
