Bobigny (93): the Socialist Party departmental council names a public building after an FLN terrorist (Update: the building burned down)

According to Le Parisien , the house in the Bergère departmental park in Bobigny, recently named after Danièle Djamila Amrane-Minne, a former FLN fighter who died in 2017, was partially burned down during the night of August 4 to 5, 2025. The bay window exploded as a result of flames from the wooden terrace. This disaster comes after two waves of vandalism and racist graffiti, including "Assassin," "Traitor," and "Algerians Out," accompanied by Celtic crosses.

Departmental Council President Stéphane Troussel denounced "a milestone reached" and filed a third complaint, citing "criminal origins that leave little doubt" and acts that were "intolerable due to their racist motivation." He castigated "those nostalgic for French Algeria" and called for the development of "a peaceful memory" of this period.

Danièle Djamila Amrane-Minne, a mujahideen and daughter of Jacqueline Guerroudj, was sentenced to seven years in prison for an attack in Algiers before being released and amnestied in 1962. This is "the first time that her memory has been honored in France," her daughter recalled at the inauguration on July 5, 2025.

The departmental building in Parc de la Bergère was the target of vandalism and racist graffiti this weekend. In early July, it was named after Danièle Djamila Amrane-Minne, a fighter for Algerian independence. The department announced it has filed a complaint against unknown individuals.

The Parisian

According to Le Parisien , the Seine-Saint-Denis departmental council paid tribute on July 5, 2025 to Danièle Djamila Amrane-Minne , by naming the house in the Parc de la Bergère in Bobigny after her, on the occasion of the 63rd anniversary of Algerian independence.

At the age of 16, Amrane-Minne became an FLN activist, then a liaison agent and saboteur . She notably took part in the attack on the Otomatic brewery during the Battle of Algiers in January 1957. A bomb had been hidden in the toilet flush.

Sentenced to seven years in prison , she was released and amnestied in 1962. As an academic, she wrote a thesis on the role of women in the Algerian War . She died in 2017 in Algiers.

"The name of Danièle Djamila Amrane-Minne alone reflects the inextricable links […] between the Algerian people and the French people," declared Stéphane Troussel , the socialist president of the department. He also spoke of "a difficult, painful memory, wounded by the concealment of the crimes of colonization."
