Despite falling temperatures and rain, several beaches in the Dordogne are still closed to swimming this week due to the presence of cyanobacteria. The bans now affect seven sites.

Some of the Dordogne's beaches will remain deserted this week. This Friday, July 25, the regional health agency (ARS) published the results of the latest analyses carried out in some of the Dordogne's waterways. The verdict: Seven sites remain closed to swimming and all water sports or fishing due to the presence of an excessively high cyanobacteria threshold.

Several sites banned

Thus, the beaches of Lisle, Tocane-Saint-Apre, Coux-et-Bigaroque-Mouzens, Port-Sainte-Foy-et-Ponchapt, Saint-Julien-de-Lampon, Saint-Aulaye-Puymangou and the beach of the village of Beauclair, in the commune of Douchapt are closed. Analyses for these sites confirm the presence of toxins. As for the bathing sites of Domme-Pont-de-Cénac and Bac-de-Sors in Allès-sur-Dordogne, these are currently closed. The sites have been subject to a new inspection but the results are not yet known.

The beaches of Limeuil, Cadouin in Vitrac, Castelnaud-la-Chapelle, the Cazoules campsite, Pont-de-Vitrac in Domme, Buisson-de-Cadouin, and Rocher de la Cave in Carsac are under increased surveillance. The sites are placed at level 1, meaning that swimming is permitted but showering is strongly recommended. However, the ARS reports that all other bodies of water and rivers in the department that have been checked have received positive results, meaning that swimming is permitted.
