Montbéliard (25) – An elected official attacked in the street by an Afghan migrant: the attacker does not speak French, the mayor demands an exemplary sanction

According to France Bleu Belfort-Montbéliard , Christophe Froppier, deputy for commerce at the Montbéliard town hall, was attacked in the street on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, at around 4:30 p.m., on rue Febvre . According to initial reports, the attacker was a man of Afghan origin , unknown to the police , and not speaking French . He was immediately arrested and taken into custody, but his hearing has been postponed pending the arrival of a translator.

Christophe Froppier was taken to Trévenans hospital for tests. The mayor of Montbéliard, Marie-Noëlle Biguinet , reacted publicly on Facebook, denouncing a “violent attack” and calling for severe punishment:

“I hope his attacker will be severely punished.”

The hearings of the elected official and the attacker are scheduled for this Thursday morning , according to the Montbéliard prosecutor's office.
