Symphony orchestra and 400 choristers: a huge sacred music concert on Place Pey Berland in Bordeaux this Saturday

To mark its tenth anniversary, the Cathedra association is bringing together a symphony orchestra and more than 400 choristers to give a huge sacred music concert on Place Pey Berland, in the heart of Bordeaux, this Saturday at 8 p.m.
" Jubilate Deo , omnis terra (Sing joyfully to your God, all the earth, Editor's note) " is about to resonate in the heart of Bordeaux . This Saturday at 8 p.m., at the foot of Saint-André Cathedral on Place Pey Berland, a symphony orchestra and more than 400 choristers will perform Dan Forrest's Jubilate Deo under the baton of Alexis Duffaure. The trumpeters will be positioned on the roofs of the cathedral and the bells are to ring.
Inspired by Psalm 110 in the Bible, this grandiose musical piece sings its anthem in seven languages (Latin, Hebrew, English, Spanish, Zulu, Arabic and Mandarin). A free, public sacred music concert, organized on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of Cathedra - an association whose goal is to democratize sacred art. Thanks to its patrons, it organizes a musical season each year with around thirty performances per year, including great names in classical music such as William Christie, Jakub Jòzef Orliński, The King's Singers and Renaud Capuçon .
"We chose to offer this concert as a gift to the Bordeaux public, because music is a universal language that unites all peoples. Each movement and each language of Jubilate Deo presents the colors of a continent. In the Arabic section, we really feel like we are in the desert, for example," Alexis Duffaure, assistant choirmaster at the Bordeaux National Opera, tells us. For this forty-year-old, who is also choirmaster at Bordeaux Cathedral, this three-quarter-hour hymn of praise is "an invitation to travel." The very famous hymn Amazing Grace and Pomp and Circumstances , a series of five marches composed by Edward Elgar, will also be played in the first part.
To achieve this artistic feat, which is expected to attract 5,000 spectators, Alexis Duffaure has gathered volunteer choristers, aged 17 to 77. They worked on the score at home before being brought together for a 5-day workshop. The voices of novices blend with those of professionals and the seasoned timbres of the Chœur voyageur and the Chœur Notre Dame. They will also be accompanied by the Municipal Harmony Orchestra. An evening dedicated to the sublime that promises to remind the people of Bordeaux, as the poet Johann Wolfgang von Goethe said, to take great care of Beauty because the useful will always take care of itself.
