Meanwhile, the latest installment of the Mission: Impossible saga, starring Tom Cruise, grossed some $27 million in the United States and Canada. The Paramount Studios film earned an additional $231 million overseas, which should help offset its massive production budget of $400 million.
In last place, Sony's Karate Kid: Legends , starring Jackie Chan, earned $21 million. " The film tries to revive the story with a new Kid - again - but it doesn't work, " according to expert David Gross of Franchise Entertainment Research.
In fourth place was the Warner Bros./New Line horror film Final Destination: Bloodlines , with $10.8 million. Another horror film, Bring Her Back , came in fifth with $7.1 million. " That's a very strong start for an original horror film that only cost $4.5 million to produce ," said David Gross. Sinners and Thunderbolts , which were released a few weeks ago, continue to do well at the box office, taking in $5.2 million and $4.8 million respectively last week.
