Culture. World music, short and viral: here are the hits you'll be dancing to this summer.

But what tune will the French be singing along to at the top of their lungs in the coming weeks? "Between established artists and new revelations, French and international sounds, there will be something for everyone," observes the music streaming platform Deezer. Spotify, its main competitor, is no exception: its predictions (*) this year reflect "a wide diversity of genres driven by a generation of artists with multiple influences."
Long gone are the days of Lambada and the calibrated hits of the 1980s and 1990s, when one song would become THE hit of the summer. "Today, with the fragmentation of listening and the number of releases increasing every year, there is less consensus around a single track or a single aesthetic," explains Azzedine Fall, music & culture director at Deezer. Pop, rap, rock... These days, there's something for everyone.
"Several songs coexist, each dominating a niche or segment of the audience," Azzedine Fall emphasizes. To be a hit, however, a summer hit must adhere to certain codes, such as a catchy melody and a light tone, ideal for vacations and evenings. But then, what will we be dancing to?
The French have nothing to be ashamed ofAccording to Deezer, songs that are already enjoying huge success will remain "must-haves this summer." Among them: Feel Good by Charlotte Cardin, Anxiety by Doechii, Party 4U by Charlie XCX and Messy by Lola Young. Pop giants like Ed Sheeran ( Azizam ) and Lady Gaga ( Abracadabra ) are also expected to flood the airwaves, according to the latest figures from Snep (National Union of Phonographic Publishing).
French-speaking artists have nothing to be ashamed of: according to Spotify, "some regulars of summer hits" will once again be making waves. This is the case for DJ Snake, with Paradise (a cover of Phil Collins's Another Day in Paradise ), and Gims, with Ninao . The platforms also predict a bright future for rapper Hamza and his song KYKY2BONDY , as well as former Star Academy artists Marine ( Cœur griffe ) and Marguerite ( Les filles, les meufs ).

The Ketchup Song (Aserejé) by Las Ketchup, Obsession by Aventura, Despacito by Luis Fonsi… Latin music has always had its place among summer hits and “is increasingly exported throughout the year,” notes Spotify. According to the Swedish platform, this genre “should be proudly represented this summer thanks to Colombian Karol G” and her track Latina Foreva . Not to mention Puerto Rican artist Bad Bunny, whose concert tickets in France have been selling out .

Another "refreshing" trend, according to Azzedine Fall, is the public's openness to African music. This summer again, we should find Aya Nakamura at the top of the charts with Baddies , her new single with zouk overtones. But the revelation of 2025 is the Franco-Congolese Theodora, who combines rap, hyperpop, and Afrobeats.
Three minutes and we cutIn the age of TikTok, one of the keys to success also lies in virality, as Trinix has shown. "The Lyon duo is currently a hit with Vaitimbora , a remix in collaboration with Brazilian singer Mariana Froes," says Deezer.
What do these songs claiming to be "summer hits" have in common? They're all (or almost all) very short: of the 50 tracks selected by Spotify, only 18 are longer than three minutes (and half as many are longer than three minutes and 15 seconds). It's no surprise: according to The Economist , the average length of the most popular songs in the United States decreased by 18% between 1990 and 2024 (from four minutes and 22 seconds to three minutes and 34 seconds). The reason: the rise of streaming platforms, which only pay artists after 30 seconds of listening, which pushes them to make short intros and early choruses.
The Fête de la Musique attracts TikTokers from all over the world
Thanks to videos posted last year, internet users from all over the world were amazed to discover the existence of… the Fête de la Musique , a typically French event. The hype is such that many people are now planning to land in Paris on June 21st. On TikTok, there are countless videos of good deals and fashion advice for having the most stylish evening possible. A trend that is starting to annoy the French , who are not exactly thrilled that the streets are transforming into Coachella for English-speaking tourists. Who said that music soothes the soul, again?
