Excavations, visits, workshops... What awaits you at the Archaeology Days in Hyères

Excavations, visits, workshops... What awaits you at the Archaeology Days in Hyères

Swim, dance, and walk to discover the remains of the past. The Olbia site hosts the European Archaeology Days from June 13 to 15. At the heart of this edition, a unique experience: archeo-choreography, offered all day Saturday. "It's a workshop open to ages 16 and up that combines the study of the past with artistic expression," explains Lucie Robert, co-organizer.

Another experience is snorkeling along Olbia's underwater trail. Equipped with fins, a mask, and a snorkel, visitors ages 12 and up can explore the submerged remains of a Roman port. The immersion continues on dry land with an archaeology walk from the Greek sanctuary of Aristaeus to the Fort du Pradeau (Tour Fondue).

Getting to know archaeologists better

These days are also an opportunity to discover the discipline in its daily reality. The Almanarre preventive excavation site is underway and open to the public on Saturday. Speakers from the Var Departmental Archaeology Service, Inrap, and preventive archaeology companies will also be present. " It's important for everyone to be able to learn about the profession of archaeologist, which is often fantasized ," insists Lucie Robert.

The festivities kick off tonight at 7 p.m. with a dance and music performance on site. Admission is free for several events, and reservations are required for workshops, tours, and hikes.

The full program is available on hyeres.fr.
