Jazz in Vienna: the first evenings in pictures

For the opening evening, unique artists performed on stage: the brilliant Israeli double bassist Avishai Cohen who presented his album Bright Light , the drummer Anne Paceo and Josephine Stephenson, both composers, who unveiled a preview of Atlantis , created with the Lyon regional conservatory.

For many years, Avishai Cohen has brought together a whole generation of instrumentalists who share his taste for genre-bending and experimentation. He has been one of the biggest names in world jazz for several years, starting with Chick Corea's sextet Origin.

On June 30th, the ancient theater was awash in disco colors. The jazz band Galliano, pioneers of acid jazz, led by Robert Gallagher, made their grand return to the ancient theater's stage. A very danceable evening with powerful energy.

In the second part, virtuoso funk artist Dabeull also immerses us in the 80s, with nostalgia and a breathtakingly vintage show. An evening that, despite the intense heat, got us moving and took us back to our younger years.

On Tuesday, July 1st, the festival welcomed American-Jamaican pianist Monty Alexander. His passion for American jazz has never left him, without denying his Jamaican roots and the influence of Caribbean rhythms.

The immense singer Dee Dee Bridgewater presented her project We Exit, with a message reminding us that jazz is also feminine. An evening where Dee Dee Bridgewater, as usual, showed great generosity with her audience.
