Netflix and TF1 sign an unprecedented partnership: is this just the beginning?

The news did not go unnoticed in the American press, nor among our European neighbors. Streaming giant Netflix and the TF1 group announced an agreement on June 18th, providing for the former's platform to broadcast the latter's programs. The formula could be emulated.
Next summer, Netflix subscribers in France will be able to watch TF1 on the streaming platform. From a viewer's perspective, the agreement announced on June 18th may come as a surprise: Netflix subscriptions are paid, while TF1 is a free channel. But The New York Times explains why "Netflix is slowly venturing into old-school TV."
The Californian platform aims to offer ever more content, in terms of series but also talent shows, such as The Voice , or even (or especially) live sports broadcasts. It is also seeking to grow its audiences to "continue to increase its advertising revenue, a source of diversification of its revenue that is still quite new " for it, explains the New York daily.
Netflix co-CEO Greg Peters was in Cannes for a prestigious advertising festival, the American daily reports. There, he met with the head of the French media group, Rodolphe Belmer. He explained the strategy behind this unprecedented partnership on both sides of the Atlantic:
“By partnering with France’s leading audiovisual broadcaster, we will give French consumers even more reasons to come every day.
