Sintra, new capital of ancient ceramics

Near Lisbon, the Albuquerque Foundation opens, revealing a unique collection of ancient Chinese export porcelain. A treasure that tells the story of the beginnings of globalization.
A foundation opened to the public on February 22nd on the heights of Sintra , near Lisbon. From this traditional "quinta" (the equivalent of a Spanish hacienda) that its owners, the Brazilian real estate magnate Renato de Albuquerque and his granddaughter Mariana, have endowed with a beautiful garden of palm trees, cacti and other endemic succulents, then enriched with contemporary extensions, one can see the open sea. It is by this ocean, braved since the 15th century by the first Portuguese long-distance navigators , that the house treasures came, until then confidential but which we discover today accessible, perfectly displayed in the basement on more than 2000 m² of galleries and glass reserves.
Here, past the azulejos of a ground floor occupied by a shop selling contemporary ceramic creations, a specialist library, a restaurant as well as various spaces intended for visual artists invited in residence, are some 2,600 porcelain objects...
