Strasbourg. A summer at Shadok: creating video games, robots, and electro hits

A third-party venue dedicated to education and digital culture, Shadok is offering a packed summer program this year, featuring free workshops and, for the first time, paid weekly courses. This is an opportunity for young and old to practice programming, electronic music, modeling, or learn about cybersecurity.
"How do I add a gravity variable so my character can jump?" asks Antoine, aged nine and a half. This Wednesday, July 16, he and around ten other children aged eight to ten are participating in the Shadok workshop entitled "Create your own mini-video game." "We use games to teach them the basics of programming, an important skill in this day and age," explains Quentin Boutin, the workshop's facilitator.
For their second morning of training, the children are each seated behind a computer to learn how to customize their game character. The fastest ones then tackle the backgrounds, then begin to give simple instructions to their creature, such as how to move when...
