The Avignon Festival announces the departure of its deputy director, who has been the target of accusations of sexual and gender-based violence in previous roles. The organization, which is committed to addressing the issue, has implemented a reporting system in 2022.
The Avignon Festival has seen better times. Nearly two months before the opening of its 79th edition on July 5, the world theater event has announced the departure of its deputy director, Pierre Gendronneau, by June 13. The reason: "personal reasons" and "accusations" of sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) while he was working for another organization, festival director Tiago Rodrigues told AFP, confirming information published by Télérama on Wednesday, April 30.
