The ephemeris of June 9: in 1930, the birth of the French singer Barbara

Barbara was born in 1930 in Paris in the Batignolles district. The girl's childhood was disrupted by the Second World War, which began when she was about nine years old. Born into a Jewish family, Monique Serf, by her real name, constantly moved from city to city to escape the Nazi occupiers. A victim of incest until she came of age, she began her adult life with a heavy burden of baggage and trauma to work through.

In her early days, the artist sang funny and light-hearted pop songs, then began writing her own, encouraged by her friend Jacques Brel. She first came to public attention with "Nantes," a farewell song to her father, before tackling a more painful subject, incest, in her iconic track "L'Aigle noir." A tortured icon, she spent her life writing songs about love and loneliness, before passing away in 1997 at the age of 67.
