The Eze Theatres will soon be back on stage, with a great lineup...

We'll grant you: August isn't coming soon. But when festival lineups are almost all revealed, we know summer is fast approaching. And we'll have to keep our calendars up to date.

On Monday evening, at the Château La Chèvre d'Or, Les Théâtrales d'Eze presented the outlines of their 2025 edition, the third since the creation of the event, whose artistic direction is provided by David Brécourt, actor and director, known in particular for his roles in Plus belle la vie and Sous le soleil.

From August 1st to 5th, the public will be invited to head to the Oppidum du col d'Èze for five evenings where laughter, emotion and reflection will mingle.

Pierre Arditi, godfather and great reader

On the 1st, we will start with L'Ami du président , a play by Félicien Marceau that is both funny and scathing, created at the Avignon Festival in 2024, focusing on the behind-the-scenes of power through the story of a bookbinder who manages to infiltrate official ceremonies, before becoming the subject of an astonishing rumor. On stage, Davy Sardou, Jean-Pierre Michaël and Stéphane Cottin give substance to this story.

On the 2nd, it's time for the patron of the Théâtrales this year, Pierre Arditi, who will have plenty of time to "read what he likes."

"I'm going to sit at a table and have fun with people. [...] It's the power of reading that I'm trying to rediscover," explains the actor in the press kit. He will receive an honorary Nymphe, recognizing his entire career, at the opening of the Monte-Carlo Television Festival on June 13.

On the 3rd, the public will be able to enjoy a Pagnol classic, legendary in its feature film version but more rarely adapted for the stage, Le Schpountz . Directed by Delphine Depardieu & Arthur Cachia (who also stars), the show will bring together Axel Blind, Patrick Chayriguès, Simon Gabillet, Milena Marinelli and Jean-Benoît Souilh.

One of the big hits of the year to discover in Eze

On the 4th, Eze will host a play that has been a great success since its launch in 2024 at the Avignon Festival.

At the last Molières, Anthony Michineau's Les Marchands d'étoiles garnered four nominations, with one statuette going to Guillaume Bouchède, best actor in a private show (he will be replaced by Eric Collado from the Côte d'Azur in Eze).

A favorite of Le Figaro and Le Parisien, the play, deemed both "funny and moving" by L'Officiel des loisirs, takes us to the Martineau family in 1942. Neither resistance fighters nor collaborators, but rather passive, these fabric sellers have landed the contract to manufacture the yellow stars imposed by Nazi Germany to "mark" Jews.

Things continue as usual until one of the employees explains that his mother is Jewish. The Martineau family then changes their perspective and attempts to protect Joseph from being denounced.

As a final dance, on August 5, the Théâtrales will be traversed by Un grand cri d'amour , a creation by Josiane Balasko directed by Eric Laugérias, with Alexandre Brasseur and Catherine Marchal in the role of a couple of actors, who loved each other very much, before hating each other even more.

And despite these flashes above their heads, after a combination of circumstances, the two actors will find themselves on the bill for the same show.

Time passes, and David Brécourt's enthusiasm is far from waning. "The first year, when I was entrusted with the artistic direction of this festival, it was a waking dream. Since then, it has endured," promises the man who is related to Francis Blanche, the grandfather of one of his daughters, buried in Eze.

David Brécourt, who has spent time in the village for four decades, is pleased with the direction the Théâtrales has taken.

"We doubled the number of admissions last year. For 2025, we've tried to build an eclectic program, with the desire to introduce authors, directors, and actors. Because it's actually quite easy to write checks and buy shows with well-known people. There's more to it than that."

The artistic director takes as an example the evening of August 3, with Le Schpountz .

"To rediscover Pagnol's language. He's the star of this show. And I think it's great to rediscover his language. What's more, thanks to a troupe symbolizing the young generation that's growing up. At the Splendid, it was a hit for them for a year, every night. And now, just before coming to us, they'll have played for a month at the Avignon Off Festival."
