VIDEO: Austria wins Eurovision 2025 with JJ's song "Wasted Love"

Long an outsider among the bookmakers, the young opera singer benefited from a particularly enthusiastic vote from the jury and the public.
For a song "written in ten minutes," it's a masterstroke. Austrian opera singer JJ, whose real name is Johannes Pietsch, won Eurovision with his song Wasted Love, a baroque, electronic performance that wowed the jury and the audience from the stage of the Halle Saint-Jacques in Basel, Switzerland. With 436 points, he was well ahead of Israeli candidate Yuval Raphael, who had a comeback thanks to the public vote. Estonia completed the podium with Tommy Cash and his ironic song Espresso macchiato . However, it was a cold shower for the other two favorites, the Swedes of KAJ, who failed to reach the podium, and Louane, who was relegated to 7th place . This edition was a second setback in a row for the bookmakers, after the unexpected success of Nemo in 2024.
JJ has a way of giving it his all on stage: "I always imagine it's the last concert of my life." This is probably the beginning of a new career for the man who was performing at the Vienna Opera in The Magic Flute just a few months ago. With this success, Austria has secured a third victory in the competition, 11 years after Conchita Wurst's crown. It now remains to be determined where, between Vienna, Graz or Salzburg, the 2026 competition will be held.
