Dance floor, ping-pong tables, parkour... participatory budget projects in Lyon 7th

For the second edition of the participatory budget, 90 projects were selected, including sixteen in the 7th arrondissement. Lyon Capitale takes stock.
On June 18, the City of Lyon unveiled the winning projects of the second edition of the participatory budget. Of the 233 projects submitted for voting, 90 were selected and will be implemented by the City of Lyon in its nine arrondissements. Lyon Capitale provides an update on the selected projects, district by district. In the 7th arrondissement, sixteen projects were selected:
- New facilities at Parc Blandan
It seems that residents of the 7th arrondissement are attached to their park. Among the sixteen projects selected, five concern Blandan Park, including the one that received the most votes: the installation of an inclusive playground to the east of the park. The approximately €350,000 allocated to this project should be used to install several structures adapted for children with physical disabilities. This includes the installation of a ramp, an inclusive turnstile, and a swing for people with reduced mobility.
Other projects selected for the park include the installation of ping-pong tables, a redevelopment of the dog area, and the addition of new benches. A parkour park with obstacles and climbing points is also expected to be built, thanks to a budget of €150,000.
- Experimentation with mosquito traps at the Gilbert Dru school
€3,000 will be allocated to the installation of eco-friendly, removable mosquito repellents in the courtyard of the Gilbert Dru school. If the experiment is successful, it should prevent the proliferation of mosquitoes in the neighborhood.
- A cargo bike to fight bread waste
As part of this second participatory budget, Lyon City Hall will acquire a cargo bike dedicated to combating food waste. Entrusted to nonprofits, the two-wheeler will make it easier and faster to redistribute unsold bakery goods to people in need. A budget of €10,000 has been made available for this project.
- Install water games for toddlers at the Rhône swimming pool
To allow everyone to enjoy a cool spot during periods of extreme heat, play areas suitable for young children are to be installed within the Rhône swimming pool. A total of €275,000 has been allocated to create a safe space with play facilities for toddlers.
- Redevelopment of Béguin Square
After being occupied by unaccompanied minors for a long period and then closed to the public for several months, Béguin Square is set to be redeveloped. The project includes the installation of two table tennis tables, children's furniture, a foosball table, and a new surface. Additional planting and new seating are also expected, thanks to the €234,000 allocated to the project.
Other selected projects:
- Construction of a vegetable garden shed in Gerland
- Sculptures of wild animals living in Lyon
- Redevelopment of the playground on the lower quays opposite the Saint-Joseph Saint-Luc hospital
- A dance floor in Gerland Park
- Recreation of the historic streetlights on University Bridge
- A new dog park in La Guillotière
- Renovation of the Gilbert Dru nursery and primary school courtyards
