In October 2019, SAP made history in Germany by becoming the first company in the DAX 30, the German stock index, to have a woman at its helm. American Jennifer Morgan may have only been co-CEO of the software giant for six months, but it was a significant step. However, SAP won't be able to take it again.

Europe's largest stock market capitalization company announced on Friday, May 9, that the promotion of women would no longer be included among the non-financial criteria used to calculate the compensation of its executive committee members. This is a lever considered essential to ensuring gender diversity in governing bodies.

As revealed by the German business daily Handelsblatt , SAP has also ended some diversity programs in the United States, including one aimed at increasing the proportion of women in its global workforce to 40% by 2030, compared to just over 35% currently.

The German flagship, which generated nearly a third of its revenue in the United States in 2024, wants to comply with the rules enacted by US President Donald Trump, who is keen to eliminate all forms of affirmative action. In March, the US embassies in France, Germany, and Spain wrote to their European suppliers asking them to abandon their efforts to support minorities, or risk losing their contracts with the US administration.
