Electric cars: what are the new rules for the ecological bonus?

From July 1st, the aid for the purchase of an electric vehicle will increase to 4,200 euros for low-income households and to 3,100 euros for the most well-off.
The new amount of the ecological bonus was unveiled on Friday, June 6. Its calculation will still depend on your reference tax income. Below €26,200 per year, some individuals would no longer receive €3,000, but €4,200. A wealthier person, above the €26,200 threshold, would receive €2,000 to €3,100. But in Bordeaux (Gironde), the news is not really encouraging people to buy. "It won't encourage me to buy an electric car because I don't necessarily have the means," confides one man.
The new aid would take effect on July 1, 2025, for the direct purchase of an electric car, for leasing, but not for hybrid vehicles. The ecological bonus has been steadily declining. In 2024, those on the lowest incomes could still receive €7,000 in aid. To save money, the government decided to transfer this burden to energy suppliers. Since January, sales of electric cars have fallen by 7% among private individuals.
