Garage sales: when the flea market reinvents itself

Saturday, May 3rd and Sunday, May 4th are one of the weekends of the year with the most flea markets, a true French passion with a total of 50,000 events per year. This craze is spreading to social media.
It's a weekend getaway for many French people. In a single morning and for €50, Nathalie and her daughter Ambre restocked their wardrobe. "That's the advantage of garage sales, they're cheap," said the mother. Finding a bargain is a passion as soon as the weather is nice. Half of French people have already bought or sold at a flea market . "The goal is to get our money back for the ticket. A ticket that costs us an average of €20. If we make €20 in sales, that's good," explained Nathalie, a regular at garage sales.
Garage sales are everywhere these days. Around forty were held just for the weekend of Saturday, May 3rd and Sunday, May 4th in Hauts-de-France, and around fifteen in Brittany. And, in a new development, they're a hit on social media and among influencers. But with their slashed prices, sellers sometimes struggle to make a profit, especially in big cities.
