A craftsman crafts a 9-carat ring, indistinguishable from an 18-carat ring, yet the price is halved. “The difference lies in the gold used to make the wedding bands,” explains Alain Belot, collections director at Maty. An 18-carat ring contains 75% pure gold, while a 9-carat ring contains 37.5%. Pure gold is mixed with an alloy of metals such as copper or zinc. To play on price, the brand has a second advantage: nearly 80% of its collection is made from recycled gold.
