As poultry meat consumption overtakes pork consumption, the country will need 400 chicken coops within five years to meet the strong growth in demand. This market opens up prospects at the regional level, where initiatives are multiplying.

"This demonstrates that we made the right decision in giving emerging sectors a boost," enthuses Stéphane Ermann, a Moselle resident. Elected head of the Chamber of Agriculture in January, the man who held the vice-presidential seat in the outgoing team has always championed diversification. He himself runs a farm in the south of the department, combining sheep and poultry farming, applying organic standards.
