Medical expenses, cancellations... These claims potentially covered by your bank card on vacation

When paying for transport or holiday rentals, you are often asked if you want to include additional cover, or if you are covered by your credit card.
But it's not easy to find your way around... Let's take stock.
To be covered in the event of a claim, you must first have paid with your bank card . There are different types of cards: the traditional card, and so-called premium cards such as Gold or Platinum.
For holders of a standard Visa or Mastercard card: no refunds in the event of flight delays, cancellations, or changes... However, they still offer certain guarantees, such as medical expenses up to €11,000.
However, the bill can quickly add up if you travel to a country where healthcare is very expensive, such as Switzerland or the United States. In the event of death, the card covers you up to €95,000.
This is why some more luxurious cards can quickly become profitable.
Premium cards, gold cards like Mastercard Gold or Visa Premier, offer more guarantees for nearly €140 per year or even free with online banks.
The medical expenses coverage ceiling is multiplied by 15, or €155,000. This ensures greater peace of mind in the event of a problem in a country where healthcare is expensive.
And if a flight is cancelled , the reimbursement goes up to €5,000, and up to €800 if your suitcase is lost, stolen or damaged by an airline or SNCF.
Especially since the Gold card also covers damage, especially when renting a car. This means you don't have to pay the rental company's insurance and pay twice for the same service. Be careful, however, as not all car models are covered.
In the event of a claim, simply contact the bank card's support service immediately to open a claim, even without all the supporting documents. It's better to start the process quickly rather than risk being late...
