Reading time: 1 min - video: 2 min

The battle for innovation is being waged for civil aviation as well as for military aircraft, all within a context of conflicts and multiple threats. We discuss this with journalist Axel de Tarlé.

Rarely has a Paris Air Show opened with such a sharp increase in military spending. " +9% in 2024, beyond the 2.3 trillion euros worldwide, that's more than Italy's GDP ," introduces journalist Axel de Tarlé. The largest budget is that of the United States, followed by China and Russia. In Europe, Germany leads the way with " 78 billion, up 28% ," followed by the United Kingdom (72 billion) and France (57 billion).

Drones, fighter jets, air defense... What position does France occupy in the sector? " In France, we know how to manufacture everything," continues the journalist, who cites the Rafale in the air. and MBDA missiles, on land tanks like the Caesar cannon, and finally at sea submarines, frigates and other aircraft carriers. France is thus the second largest arms exporter in the world, behind the United States.

The sector therefore generates surpluses for France: 28.7 billion for aeronautics and space, compared, for example, to 17 billion for cosmetics.
