RMC EXCLUSIVE. Auto, home: why insurance prices will explode in 2025
Insurance is costing you more this year. According to an Assurland study released by RMC on Monday, June 16, households need to budget an average of €1,000 per year. This cost varies by region.

Insurance is becoming increasingly expensive. Insurance prices are expected to hit a record high by 2025. According to an Assurland study, which RMC revealed exclusively this Monday morning, a French household spends an average of €1,000 per year on insurance. This is a "completely unprecedented" increase that combines "several factors," the co-founder of the comparison site told RMC.

Compared to last year, this represents a 12.8% increase in home insurance and a 6.8% increase in car insurance.

At €722 per year, car insurance is the biggest burden on household budgets, with rates rising by nearly 7%. This figure is even double for young drivers, who pay €1,600 per year. Their lack of experience is a concern for insurers, who are also concerned about the rise in car thefts and the cost of spare parts. Another factor behind this price increase is that repairing today's ultra-connected car requires more skilled and therefore more expensive labor.

Housing costs have increased by nearly 13% year-on-year. Each household spends an average of €274, but the figure is much higher in Provence-Alpes-Côte-d'Azur due to natural disasters such as storms, droughts, and floods.

And the bill is harder to pay this year for Salah, who has two vehicles to insure.

"In total, I'm on 400 euros a month. Even if you have a house and park your car in the garage, it's still quite expensive," he estimates.

Justine, a young driver, also noticed that her monthly rates had skyrocketed. “It could go up to almost 200 euros for insurance, so I preferred to put myself on my father's insurance as a second driver because it allowed me to get a much cheaper rate,” she emphasizes.

Home insurance rates are rising by more than 13% in the region. That's an extra 20 euros per month for Ghislaine. "If it keeps rising, how long will we be able to pay our bills?" she wonders.

Everyday insurance now costs more than 1,000 euros per year on average across the country.

"In car insurance, we're going to have repair costs that are becoming increasingly expensive. And then in insurance, we have the burden of climate disasters with repair costs that are also much higher," says Stéphanie Duraffour, spokesperson for Assurland.com.

A word of advice: don't hesitate to shop around for competing offers and renegotiate your rates with your insurer.

And for those who are hesitant to avoid paying for insurance, Olivier Moustacakis, co-founder of Assurland.com, warns. "The risk is finding yourself completely helpless in the event of a fire or flood. If you're not insured, you won't be compensated. If your home is completely destroyed, for example, you'll find yourself with nothing," he reminds us on RMC.
