Sarlat bypass: the road surface resurfaced using an innovative fiberglass process

Sarlat bypass: the road surface resurfaced using an innovative fiberglass process

Usually, "renewal of the wearing course consists of planing to a depth of approximately 12 cm, followed by the application of a base course to a height of 8 cm, followed by the application of the wearing course in bituminous coating to a depth of 4 cm," explains the Departmental Council.

The community wanted to apply another technique with several advantages: "It allows for intervention at a lower height, by replacing the implementation of the 8 cm base layer with an anti-reflective crack bonding layer composed of glass fibers and bitumen emulsion before laying the coating," the Department continues. This technique has already proven itself in 2016 on the D704 road at the exit of Montignac, towards Sarlat, over a distance of approximately 2 km. Another advantage: the use of reusable materials that are 100% recyclable at the end of their life.

Second construction site

The cost of the work to renovate this section is 370,000 euros, with alternating traffic from Wednesday 14 to Thursday 28 May.

Next door, the Department is carrying out the renewal of the road surface of the D47, from the Bonnefond roundabout towards Les Eyzies, over 2 km. After an initial phase of work from April 22 to 29 with the in-place reprocessing of the road surface (i.e. the reuse of existing materials) followed by a month and a half of "curing", the installation of a 6 cm bituminous coating is expected for the beginning of June.

Amount of this second operation: 300,000 euros.
