Taxi strike: meeting with Prime Minister planned for Saturday

Taxi strike: meeting with Prime Minister planned for Saturday

Reading time: 1 min - video: 1 min

As the taxi drivers' protests continue, a meeting between union representatives and François Bayrou is scheduled for Saturday, May 24.

On Boulevard Raspail in Paris, a taxi driver from Haute-Savoie traveled to the capital to support his colleagues. He slept in his vehicle and explained that he wanted to continue the mobilization: "If we have to stay two weeks, three weeks, we'll stay two weeks, three weeks." In an attempt to renew dialogue, the Prime Minister will meet with taxi drivers on May 24 at Matignon. They continue to oppose the new medical transport pricing planned by Social Security, which could reduce their pay. "If you're going to work for nothing, will you get up in the morning to work? No," confides a Normandy taxi driver.

In addition, taxi drivers are denouncing the competition from VTCs, which they consider unfair, and point out that the two professions are not subject to the same regulations. On Thursday, May 22, taxis blocked Roissy-Charles de Gaulle airport. New slow-moving operations are planned for Friday, May 23, on the Paris ring road and around train stations.
