Taxi strike: towards a way out of the conflict?

For several days, taxi drivers have been engaged in a standoff with the government. They were scheduled to meet on Saturday, May 24, at the Ministry of Transport, in the presence of Prime Minister François Bayrou. What can we learn from this meeting?

The meeting lasted nearly three hours. Three hours of negotiations between the five taxi federations and François Bayrou and his ministers. "We agreed that savings must be made, but we will rework, in the coming weeks, the details of the decisions, measures, and directions that must be taken," declared the Prime Minister. Reassuring words to calm the anger of the taxi drivers. For six days, they had been keeping up the pressure.

Their goals: to obtain the withdrawal of the new medical transport agreement, which would cost them money, and an end to competition from private hire vehicles, which they consider unfair. Starting next Tuesday, work with taxi federations will resume to review the details of the agreement on patient transport, which is still expected to come into effect on October 1. The federations say they are confident, but cautious.
