Foie gras, dog and cat food, human hair, beef tongues, and Christmas trees... The list of American products targeted by the European Union in response to Donald Trump's tariffs is a surprising inventory. This list, published Thursday, is now subject to public consultation and may be amended.

The targeted imports, worth a total of €95 billion, will only be taxed if the European Union fails to reach an agreement on lifting the customs measures imposed by the American president. The 218-page document includes cars and airplanes—primarily Boeing—fresh fruit, fish, oysters and other seafood, plastics, chemicals and electrical equipment, and petroleum products.

Also included is bourbon, which was removed from the first round of retaliatory measures to spare European wines and spirits from potential US retaliation. Some surprising items include Christmas trees, live bees, camels and parrots, condoms, opium, pearls, and bumper cars. The list also includes key US exports like soybeans, as well as various appliances like sewing machines.

Among the largest amounts, automobiles and aircraft, including spare parts, represent a value of €12 billion and €10.5 billion respectively. The European measures could deal a further serious blow to Boeing, already in the midst of a crisis. Plastics and chemicals represent another large amount: €12.9 billion.

The EU will now consult all interested parties in Europe and the rest of the world until June 10, in the hope that this period will be enough time to allow negotiations to avoid a trade war with its largest trading partner.
