Winter holidays: these French people seduced by the low prices of the coast

Many French people prefer the sea air to ski resorts, which are prohibitively expensive for many families. Report from La Grande-Motte, in Hérault, where shopkeepers are welcoming this new clientele by lowering prices.

Holidaymakers are warmly dressed, but still, no snow on the horizon for their winter holidays. Carole and Emmanuel have chosen to spend their February holidays at the seaside. The grandparents and their grandchildren, originally from Clermont-Ferrand, have come to spend a few days in La Grande-Motte (Hérault), because for them, skiing is out of their budget .

"I got a rental for not even 250 euros for three nights," explains Carole, who points out that at the seaside, it is possible to "do activities that cost nothing," such as a walk and games on the sand. Like this family, more and more French people are choosing the coast in February. This year, the region recorded an additional 2% in attendance. To attract vacationers on a tight budget, a restaurant owner has lowered its prices. Low prices that also convinced a couple from Grenoble, who came to breathe the good sea air.
