You may be one of those who will receive a surprise: this mutual insurance company will pay out 40 million euros to its policyholders.

It's a rare enough gesture to be noticed. The complementary health insurance company Harmonie Mutuelle has decided to redistribute 84 million euros to its members, as reported by our colleagues at Le Parisien .

A welcome surprise for the 1.2 million protected individuals (those with at least two years of service as of February 1, 2025). They will each receive a bank transfer of €44.

This represents a total of 40 million euros for individuals . This will be supplemented by 44 million euros for corporate clients, bringing the total amount to 84 million euros for the 2024 results.

Part of the surplus redistributed

To reward its members, Harmonie mutuelle uses the "eco-health dividend" mechanism it created in 2020. By making this exceptional payment, the company is still in a very favorable financial situation.

As Le Parisien points out, in normal times, a mutual insurance company "sets aside all of its surpluses to cope with difficulties" , but with the eco-health dividend, part of this surplus is redistributed .

Please also note that Harmonie mutuelle does not have shareholders.

This decision comes as the government is currently working on a solution to recover 1.1 billion euros from mutual insurance companies.
