Forbach: Excessive alcoholism and binge drinking, new scourges among young people

"How do I talk to my teenager about alcohol?" This is the theme of a conference to be given at the Forbach urban community on Tuesday, May 13. Alcoholism has always existed among young people, but it is more excessive today, according to Jean-Claude Tomczak, president of the Friends of Health, a Forbach association. Binge drinking, in particular, is a new scourge.

The figures are alarming. According to the French Observatory for Drugs and Drug Addiction, 44% of 17-year-olds reported engaging in heavy occasional drinking or binge drinking . 16.4% even repeat this behavior (at least 3 episodes during the month) and 2.7% engage in this practice regularly, more than 10 times per month. This is the subject of a conference that will be given by Guylaine Benech, sociologist and author, at the headquarters of the Forbach urban community, this Tuesday, May 13.
