Health. The tiger mosquito: a real risk under the watchful eye of health authorities

The fight against the tiger mosquito is taken very seriously by the department's health authorities. A press release from the Regional Health Agency points out that this potential vector of dengue, chikungunya, and Zika viruses has been established in Côte-d'Or since 2018.
Established for many years in the Indian Ocean and the Antilles, the tiger mosquito became significantly and continuously established in mainland France in the early 2000s.
Active from May to November, this mosquito is a priority surveillance target for health authorities and their partners during its active period. The tiger mosquito is also very harmful and also bites repeatedly during the day.
In 2024, 62 imported cases of arboviruses (a quarter of which were hospitalized) were reported in Bourgogne-Franche-Comté during the period of reinforced surveillance, giving rise to nearly fifty entomological surveys, which themselves led to 7 treatments.
