The arrival of these young students in their final year of medical training is part of the Pact to combat medical deserts
The Pact to Combat Medical Deserts, announced on April 25 by Prime Minister François Bayrou, is showing its first concrete effects in Gironde with the implementation of a flagship measure, the establishment of a "territorial solidarity mission for doctors," as well as measures aimed at encouraging young doctors to set up in underserved areas.
A departmental consultation took place this Friday, June 6, under the auspices of Regional Prefect Étienne Guyot and Bénédicte Motte, Director of the Departmental Delegation of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine Regional Health Agency. The outcome was that 60 junior doctors (young doctors in their final year of training) will be welcomed into Gironde medical practices starting in November 2026.
The census of practices likely to accommodate them, of volunteer doctors and of internship supervisors was carried out from October 2024 to March 2025. Territories will be given priority: the districts of Blaye (target 18 to 25 junior doctors); of Libourne (target 14 to 22 junior doctors); of Lesparre-Médoc, in particular Médulienne and Médoc cœur de Presqu'île (target 8 to 14 junior doctors); of Langon, in particular the territories on the southern and eastern peripheries (target 3 to 6 junior doctors); of Arcachon, in particular the territories on the south-eastern periphery (target 4 to 7 junior doctors) and of Bordeaux, on the periphery and in the neighborhoods and in the socially disadvantaged territories (target 2 to 5 junior doctors).
