Meurthe-et-Moselle. At the heart of the Regional Rehabilitation Institute: a research unit integrated into healthcare practices

Meurthe-et-Moselle. At the heart of the Regional Rehabilitation Institute: a research unit integrated into healthcare practices

In Nancy, Flavigny, and Lay-Saint-Christophe, nearly 500 staff members work year-round to provide rehabilitation and re-education to patients, both children and adults. Through a seven-part series, we invite you to take a look behind the scenes at the Regional Rehabilitation Institute (IRR). This month, we're focusing on the Nancy research and innovation unit. The only one in France within the UGECAM group...

It is a little-known service, which many patients do not even suspect exists.

However, the research and innovation unit of the Regional Rehabilitation Institute (IRR) is a major asset in the institute's organization. And for good reason: the Nancy-based institution is the only one in the UGECAM group (Union for the Management of Health Insurance Funds) to have such a department.

This means that the creation of this unit at the end of 2019 is a significant milestone in the history of the IRR.

"Historically, there was already a lot of research activity at the IRR," says Jonathan Pierret, head of the unit. "Healthcare professionals conduct many projects in collaboration with institutions and industry, and we realized that there was a need to structure and coordinate our activities, not just to control, but to monitor and ensure that we were properly promoting our activities and better communicating about them."
